How to Save Costs on Major Repairs with Junk Yard Auto Parts

Owning a vehicle brings with it other costs that you have to deal with such as repairs, insurance, maintenance, and inspection. Although you have to conduct maintenance services regularly to ensure durability, it is a fact that at one time you will require doing significant repairs on certain parts of your vehicle. While you can buy new parts from an auto store, the option of used auto parts can save you several hundred dollars in repair costs. This article highlights auto parts that can help you to cut down on repair costs. Therefore, the next time you visit an auto junkyard, you need to pay close attention to the following auto parts.

Side Mirrors -- Side mirrors are not only prone to theft but damage from minor accidents. While most wrecked cars are in poor condition, a good number will still have their side mirrors intact. With mirrors being one of the most sought-after auto parts in auto wreck yards, business owners know the value and keep a good number in store for their clients. The chances are that you will find side mirrors that match the type that you want at significantly discounted prices. Notably, most auto shops have a policy whereby customers can only buy side mirrors in pairs. Therefore, if you just need one, then you will be forced to purchase an extra one that you do not need. A junkyard offers flexibility in this regard.

Alternator -- As a car owner, you probably know the critical function that an alternator plays. If your alternator fails, then the car's battery will not get the necessary electrical charge to provide power to the electrical components as well as on-board computers. On average, a new alternator from car dealer will cost anything between $200 and $600 depending on the model you want. At the auto wreck yard, however, you might get a pull-out alternator for as low as $50. Yet, you have to be careful because you do not want to buy a faulty alternator in the junkyard. Take your time because at the end of the day an alternator is very critical to the operation of your car.

Transmission -- One of the most complex parts of a vehicle is the transmission system, which makes it relatively expensive during repair work. Therefore, when your car develops a significant problem with its transmission, you want to get things right the very first time. However, most car owners keep trying their luck at repairing a stubborn transmission system for the simple fact that getting a new one could set them back between $1800 and $3500. A similar model of a used transmission system will go for approximately $1000-$1500 at the junkyard. However, let your mechanic accompany you to the junkyard to help you with inspections.
